Active and involved fathers have a huge positive impact on children during their formative years. We've gathered 10 important facts through research conducted by The Fatherhood Project, a non-profit organization focused on fatherhood within the Massachusetts General Hospital. Explore the benefits of fathers being present in their children's lives during the early stages of development. Below are the first 5 facts. Check back soon for the next 5 important facts.

.) An actively engaged father can have a significant impact on a child's academic success. Studies show that children with involved fathers are 43% more likely to earn top grades and 33% less likely to repeat a grade. Encourage fathers to take an active role in their children's education and help set them up for lifelong success.

.) Research shows that a strong bond with fathers has profound benefits for children. Those who feel close to their father are twice as likely to pursue higher education and secure stable employment after high school. They are also 75% less likely to face teen pregnancy, 80% less likely to get involved in criminal activity and experience fewer symptoms of depression. Encourage your children to build a close relationship with their father and set them up for success in life.

.)  Research indicates that fathers who are involved with their infants have a positive impact on their child's health, leading to improvements in weight gain for preterm babies and higher rates of successful breastfeeding.

.) While the amount of time spent together matters, the quality of the father-child relationship is ultimately more important. Non-resident fathers can still have a significant positive impact on their children's social and emotional well-being, as well as their academic achievement and behavioral adjustment.

.) Research suggests that when fathers are actively involved in their sons' lives, there is a decrease in behavioral problems, delinquency, and economic disadvantage in low-income families.
