The Importance of Children’s Physical Health and Mental Health

  • Go Kids, Inc. 885 Moro Drive Gilroy, CA, 95020 United States (map)

Decades of hard-fought progress has been made to expand access to comprehensive, affordable health and mental health coverage through the expansions of Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). These efforts have significantly lowered the rate of uninsured children in America to a historic low.

Regrettably, our nation has taken a shameful U-turn, and the number of uninsured children has been steadily increasing since 2016. In 2019 alone, an estimated 5.7 percent of children under the age of 19 (nearly 4.4 million) were without health insurance—a concerning rise of 320,000 uninsured children since 2018.

It is disturbing to note that children living in poverty and children of color face worse access to healthcare and outcomes compared to their higher-income, white counterparts. The failure to address the unmet health needs of children leads to developmental delays and difficulties in catching up physically, socially, and academically.

At Go Kids, Inc., we are dedicated to ensuring that all children in our care have access to comprehensive, affordable, and child-appropriate health and mental health coverage and care. We believe that every child, regardless of income, zip code, place of birth, or immigration status, should have easy access to the necessary programs and tools they need to not only survive but thrive. We actively assist children and families in our care with locating and applying for these and other vital programs, leaving no stone unturned in our pursuit of a healthier future for all children.
